    Overview

    The Africa CDC African Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship (Cohort 3) is a fully funded, six-month residential program designed to enhance Africa’s capacity to manage public health emergencies. It aims to develop a cadre of African public health leaders.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must:

    • Be citizens of an African Union Member State.
    • Be 50 years old or younger by 31 July 2026.
    • Hold a postgraduate degree in public health or a related field.
    • Be full-time, government-employed civil servants in public health.
    • Have professional experience in areas such as PHEOC operations, emergency preparedness and response, policy, or health economics.
    • Demonstrate leadership potential.

    Fellows are expected to take on leadership roles in national public health emergency management systems upon completion.

    Fellowship Structure

    This is a full-time, six-month residential program. Training includes:

    • 14 weeks of intensive in-person classroom training.
    • Mentorship pairing.
    • Two-week study tours.
    • Four-week field placement.
    • Four weeks for project completion, evaluation, and graduation.
    Training will take place at Africa CDC Headquarters in Ethiopia and the Southern Regional Collaborating Centre in Zambia.
