Overview

The AI Existential Risk Research Internship offered by the Existential Risk Observatory provides a unique opportunity for early-career researchers to contribute to the long-term risks posed by advanced artificial intelligence.

This internship is designed for individuals with strong academic backgrounds and a serious interest in AI safety, governance, and existential risk research.

Key Responsibilities

Conducting literature reviews on AI existential risk
Analysing and comparing different threat models
Supporting the development of consensus frameworks
Contributing to research outputs such as blog posts, reports, or academic papers

Requirements

Strong academic performance (typically top 5–10% of their cohort)
Excellent research and analytical skills
Clear, precise academic writing ability
Strong logical reasoning and attention to detail
A technical background (preferred)
Familiarity with AI existential risk concepts
Previous experience in related research (preferred)
Connections within the AI safety community (preferred)
