Young people are increasingly becoming powerful drivers of social transformation, innovation, and community development across the world. Recognizing the importance of youth participation in decision-making, UNICEF YuWaah has launched the Young People’s Action Team (YPAT), an initiative designed to amplify youth voices and empower future leaders in India.
The UNICEF YuWaah YPAT programme is aimed at individuals aged 15 to 29 who are passionate about advocating for the needs of young people and influencing policies and programmes that shape their futures. Through this initiative, selected youth advisors will collaborate with government agencies, private sector organizations, United Nations bodies, philanthropies, and civil society organizations to contribute to meaningful discussions and solutions for young people.
The Young People’s Action Team (YPAT) serves as a youth advisory platform that enables young leaders to actively participate in shaping UNICEF YuWaah’s strategic priorities and programmes. The initiative focuses on critical areas such as employment, entrepreneurship, skilling, career guidance, mental health, advocacy, and community engagement.
The programme is voluntary and unpaid but provides participants with valuable leadership experience, networking opportunities, and direct engagement with key decision-makers.
Selected YPAT members will play a key role in ensuring that youth perspectives are integrated into policies and initiatives that affect millions of young people across India.
Youth advisors selected for the programme will contribute in several impactful ways, including:

Youth entrepreneurs and innovators with experience in startups, problem-solving, and social innovation can contribute valuable insights into building sustainable opportunities for young people.
The initiative values individuals passionate about storytelling, digital engagement, awareness campaigns, and youth advocacy to help amplify important social issues.
YPAT also prioritizes conversations around mental health, emotional well-being, and creating safe spaces for young people facing social and economic challenges.
The programme aims to ensure that marginalized and underrepresented youth communities are included in conversations and decision-making processes.

Youth participation in governance, policy development, and community initiatives is critical for building inclusive and sustainable societies. Programmes like UNICEF YuWaah’s Young People’s Action Team create opportunities for young individuals to move beyond being passive beneficiaries and become active contributors to social change.
By connecting youth with decision-makers and empowering them with leadership opportunities, UNICEF YuWaah is helping shape a future where young people play a central role in solving challenges related to education, employment, inclusion, and well-being.
The YPAT programme represents a significant opportunity for passionate young leaders to build networks, develop advocacy skills, and contribute to meaningful transformation within their communities and beyond.
