Overview

This program offers South African university faculty and research institute professionals the opportunity to conduct advanced research in the United States for a period ranging from three to nine months during the 2027–2028 academic cycle.

Eligibility

• Holds a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree at the time of application
• Strong record of scholarly research, teaching, and publication
• At least three years of university-level teaching experience (preferred)
• South African citizenship or permanent residency with at least five years of residency status
• No dual South African–United States citizenship

Preference is given to applicants who have not previously received a Fulbright scholarship, have limited or no prior academic experience in the United States, and demonstrate strong potential for academic leadership and institutional impact. English language proficiency is required, though formal TOEFL testing is not mandatory.
