This program offers South African university faculty and research institute professionals the opportunity to conduct advanced research in the United States for a period ranging from three to nine months during the 2027–2028 academic cycle.
Preference is given to applicants who have not previously received a Fulbright scholarship, have limited or no prior academic experience in the United States, and demonstrate strong potential for academic leadership and institutional impact. English language proficiency is required, though formal TOEFL testing is not mandatory.
Applicants must complete an online application through the official Fulbright application platform, including a comprehensive research proposal, three confidential letters of reference, a curriculum vitae, and an optional letter of invitation from a U.S. host institution.
The application deadline is August 30, 2026.
