The African Union (AU) Peace Fund has officially announced a call for applications, inviting eligible institutions to apply for funding support under its programmatic windows. This initiative is part of the African Union’s ongoing commitment to strengthening African-led peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and security interventions across the continent.

The call is issued in line with the Executive Council Decision EX.CL/Dec.1279(XLVI), which approved the modalities and methodologies for the utilization and contribution of the African Union Peace Fund. The programme aims to provide financial support for initiatives that promote sustainable peace, institutional strengthening, and effective peace support operations within AU Member States and partner institutions.

Eligible applicants for this funding opportunity include Member States of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) Department of the African Union Commission. These entities are encouraged to submit project proposals that align with the Peace Fund’s strategic priorities.

The AU Peace Fund operates through three key thematic windows. The first is Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy, which focuses on early conflict prevention, dialogue facilitation, and peaceful resolution of disputes. The second is Institutional Capacity, which aims to strengthen governance structures, enhance institutional effectiveness, and build resilient systems capable of managing peace and security challenges. The third window, Peace Support Operations, supports activities related to peacekeeping missions, stabilization efforts, and post-conflict recovery initiatives.

The application process will run from 1st August to 31st August 2026. During this period, eligible applicants are required to submit their initial applications in accordance with the provided guidelines. Following submission, applications will undergo a structured assessment process beginning with a preliminary review. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit detailed project proposals for technical evaluation and ranking before final selection and notification.
