📢 Call for Applications: CJID AI Newsroom Engagement Programme 2026

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the journalism landscape, reshaping how news is produced, distributed, and consumed. From evolving newsroom workflows to critical concerns around copyright, content licensing, platform accountability, and long-term sustainability, media organisations are facing a new and complex reality. In response to these changes, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), through the Nigeria AI Collective, is inviting applications from media professionals for a high-level newsroom engagement programme focused on the future of journalism in the age of AI.

This unique opportunity is designed for senior editorial leaders and decision-makers within Nigeria’s media ecosystem. It specifically targets Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editors, News Editors, Editorial Directors, Newsroom Managers, and Media Executives responsible for editorial strategy or digital transformation. The programme aims to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and networks needed to navigate the rapidly evolving AI-driven media environment.

Selected participants will gain deeper insights into the impact of AI on journalism, particularly in relation to newsroom sustainability, innovation, and ethical reporting. They will explore emerging issues such as AI governance, intellectual property rights, content licensing frameworks, and the role of technology platforms in shaping information ecosystems. The programme also provides a platform for participants to contribute their newsroom perspectives to ongoing national and global conversations about responsible AI use in journalism.

In addition to knowledge-building and strategic dialogue, participants will have the opportunity to access post-engagement newsroom support grants. These grants are intended to strengthen AI-focused reporting and enhance newsroom capacity to effectively cover AI-related issues. This makes the programme not only a learning experience but also a practical pathway to institutional growth and innovation.

Furthermore, participants will become part of the CJID AI Community of Practice (CoP)—a growing network of journalists, media leaders, and stakeholders committed to advancing responsible AI through collaboration, continuous learning, and policy engagement. Members of this community will receive updates on future training programmes, funding opportunities, strategic dialogues, and collaborative initiatives aimed at improving AI literacy and newsroom engagement across Nigeria.

This initiative represents a valuable opportunity for media organisations to stay ahead in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world, while also contributing meaningfully to shaping the future of journalism in Nigeria.

Interested and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
