Overview

This program offers financial support for postgraduate education through the Carnegie Masters Grants. It is designed to assist individuals from low-income households who wish to pursue a master's degree at a Scottish university.

Eligibility

• Ordinarily resident in Scotland
• Meaningful connection to Scotland
• From a lower-income household
• Holding an offer for an eligible taught or research master’s programme at a Scottish university
• Not already holding a master’s qualification
• Studying full-time, part-time (minimum 0.5 FTE), or via distance learning

Benefits

• Financial assistance for tuition fees not covered by SAAS loans
• Funding for essential study-related expenses, including:
  • Travel costs
  • Childcare support
  • Academic equipment and materials
• Increased access to postgraduate education for low-income students
• Support for both part-time and full-time study modes

How to Apply

Applicants must:

1. Apply for a postgraduate tuition fee loan of up to £7,000 through the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
2. After receiving or applying for the SAAS loan, apply to the Carnegie Education Fund for additional support.

Applications for the 2026/27 academic year open on 1 May 2026, with guidance available in advance.
