The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) has officially opened applications for its 2026–2027 Student Fellows Program.

Graduate and professional students with a passion for advancing maternal and child health now have an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and expand their professional networks.

The competitive fellowship is designed to prepare the next generation of maternal and child health leaders by providing participants with leadership development, networking opportunities, and hands-on engagement within one of the nation’s leading public health organizations.

What Makes the APHA Student Fellows Program Stand Out?

The Student Fellows Program is focused on developing future leaders who are committed to improving maternal and child health outcomes. Throughout the fellowship, selected students will gain valuable leadership experience while connecting with experienced public health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and fellow emerging leaders.

Participants will also be encouraged to remain actively involved in the MCH Section after completing the program by pursuing leadership positions and continuing their membership within the section.

Leadership Development at the Core of the Fellowship

According to the program objectives, Student Fellows will:

Develop leadership skills that will enable them to create meaningful change in the field of maternal and child health.
Build lasting professional relationships through networking opportunities with public health and MCH leaders.
Pursue leadership roles within the APHA Maternal and Child Health Section after completing the fellowship.
Continue contributing to the MCH community by maintaining active membership in the section.
