Overview
The Human Past Fellowship Programme at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) invites scholars for interdisciplinary research on the human past. It fosters a collaborative environment for both early-career and established researchers exploring historical developments over the last 10,000 years.
Fellowship Categories
Advanced Fellowship
For established scholars with significant achievements and international recognition.
Eligibility:
- PhD or equivalent awarded on or before 1 June 2019.
- At least seven years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Strong record of original research and publications.
- Active engagement in international academic networks.
Young Scholar Fellowship
For promising early-career researchers.
Eligibility:
- PhD or equivalent awarded on or after 2 June 2019.
- Strong independent research achievements at the postdoctoral level.
- Promising publication record and engagement in international scholarly discussions.
Fellowship Duration Options
Available periods:
- Autumn Semester: 1 September 2027 – 17 December 2027
- Spring Semester: 11 January 2028 – 16 June 2028
- Full Academic Year: 1 September 2027 – 16 June 2028
Research Focus of the Programme
Focuses on interdisciplinary research on human populations over the last ten millennia, with emphasis on:
- Indo-European expansion
- Bantu expansion
- Austronesian expansion
Projects combining multiple disciplines are welcomed.
Academic Environment
Scholars have a dedicated research environment free from teaching duties. Expected to contribute to the intellectual community through:
