The African Food Fellowship is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort, recruiting 120 mid-career food systems leaders—40 from each participating country: Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia.
This dynamic program is designed for professionals aged 27–50 years who are actively engaged in transforming food systems within their communities.
Each country offers targeted impact areas to guide participants’ engagement:

Kenya:
Zambia:
Applicants are encouraged to select the impact area most aligned with their professional work and passion for food systems change.
The program begins in September 2026 and runs for 10 months, combining online coursework, informal meetups, assignments, and visits with organizations, businesses, and fellow participants. A three-day in-person module will be held in January 2027 in each respective country.
The Fellowship equips participants to connect, learn, and act in transforming African food systems:
Connect: Join a network of over 230 Fellows, building relationships across diverse food system sectors.
Learn: Engage in the 10-month Food Systems Leadership Programme, gaining expertise from industry leaders and learning how to address persistent food system challenges.
Act: Collaborate with peers to design, implement, and adapt innovative food system solutions. Fellows gain access to industry experts, decision-makers, and platforms to share their work with wider audiences in policy, media, research, and funding spaces.
Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate from Wageningen University & Research and Wasafiri Consulting. Graduates continue their leadership journey through country networks and ongoing support in project development, collaboration, and sector engagement.
This is a transformative opportunity for leaders committed to creating food systems that are healthy, inclusive, and sustainable, providing skills, networks, and resources to drive meaningful change in Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia.
