    The African Food Fellowship is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort, recruiting 120 mid-career food systems leaders—40 from each participating country: Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia.

    This dynamic program is designed for professionals aged 27–50 years who are actively engaged in transforming food systems within their communities.

    Food Systems Leaders: Country-Specific Focus Areas

    Each country offers targeted impact areas to guide participants’ engagement:

    Rwanda:

    • Access to Healthy and Nutritious Food
    • Climate Smart Agriculture
    • Inclusive Markets and Trade

    Kenya:

    • Horticulture for Inclusive Markets
    • Blue Economy for Food
    • Access to Finance

    Zambia:

    • Access to Healthy and Nutritious Food
    • Resilient Food Systems
    • Inclusive Markets and Trade

    Applicants are encouraged to select the impact area most aligned with their professional work and passion for food systems change.

    Food Systems Leaders: Application Process

    • Deadline: 26th April 2026 at midnight EAT
    • Complete the online application form for your country
    • Confirmation of receipt is sent within one week
    • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a 90-minute group interview
    • Successful candidates will receive formal offers by end of June 2026

    The program begins in September 2026 and runs for 10 months, combining online coursework, informal meetups, assignments, and visits with organizations, businesses, and fellow participants. A three-day in-person module will be held in January 2027 in each respective country.

    Food Systems Leaders: Program Fees and Scholarships

    • Fee: USD 1,000 (or local currency equivalent), payable in two installments
    • Enrollment fee: USD 100, charged to all participants
    • Limited scholarships are available for candidates demonstrating financial need

    • Mid-career professionals aged 27–50
    • Demonstrable experience in food systems, not limited to formal degrees in agriculture
    • Fluency in English
    • Residency in the country of program delivery
    • Open to diverse backgrounds and marginalized groups; the Fellowship encourages participation from women, queer people, and indigenous leaders

    Program Outcomes

    Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate from Wageningen University & Research and Wasafiri Consulting. Graduates continue their leadership journey through country networks and ongoing support in project development, collaboration, and sector engagement.
