The Canvas Home Small Grants programme is intended to help established artisan organizations purchase essential materials, tools, equipment, or marketing services that enable them to expand production, create jobs, and increase household incomes.

Each successful applicant may receive a grant of up to USD 1,500.

Two Grant Categories Available

Applicants may apply under one of two funding categories depending on their organizational needs.

Materials, Tools, Equipment and Instruction Grant

This funding category supports projects that improve production capacity and artisan skills.

Eligible expenses include:

• Purchase of raw materials for craft production.
• Acquisition of tools and production equipment.
• Establishment of raw material or tool banks.
• Technical assistance and artisan training workshops.
• Product design and innovation training.
• Business management and marketing skills development.
• Digital cameras and internet connectivity.
• Website development.
• Creation of centralized artisan workshops.

Marketing Support Grant

This category is designed for artisan groups with established production systems seeking to expand into new markets.

Funding may support:

• Participation in craft fairs and exhibitions.
• Display shelves and exhibition equipment.
• Marketing materials such as brochures and catalogues.
• Promotional activities to reach new customers.
• Product marketing initiatives that increase sales opportunities.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to established groups of craft producers operating in developing countries around the world.

Eligible applicants include:

• Artisan cooperatives.
• Community-based organizations.
• Small artisan businesses.
• Associations involved in handmade craft production.
• Non-profit organizations supporting artisan communities.

Applicants must produce crafts that:

• Are handmade.
• Possess both artistic and functional value.
• Reflect cultural significance and traditional craftsmanship.

The programme does not support individual artisans or newly established craft projects.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, applicants must satisfy several mandatory requirements.

Organizations must:

• Submit applications entirely in English.
• Prepare budgets using only U.S. Dollars (USD).
• Provide at least five recent photographs taken within the last year.
• Include a signed and dated recommendation letter from a credible partner organization familiar with their work.
• Be able to receive grant funds through an international USD wire transfer.
• Agree to submit a follow-up report approximately six months after receiving funding.

Recommendation letters must come from organizations that have previously funded, partnered with, or have direct knowledge of the applicant’s work. Letters from previous Canvas Home Small Grant recipients or paid recommendation services are not accepted.

Selection Priorities

Given the competitive nature of the programme, preference will be given to applications that:

• Provide detailed and well-justified project proposals.
• Benefit large numbers of artisans.
• Promote cultural preservation.
• Demonstrate environmentally sustainable craft production.
• Clearly explain the need for financial support.
• Present realistic implementation plans and identified markets for finished products.
• Offer opportunities for ongoing communication with HANDMADE to MARKET.
• Have not previously received a Canvas Home Small Grant.

The selection committee will prioritize projects capable of delivering measurable social and economic impact within artisan communities.

Activities That Will Not Be Funded

The programme does not provide funding for:

• Individual artisans.
• Start-up costs for new craft projects.
• Salaries and staff wages.
• Travel expenses.
• Vehicle purchases.
• Industrial or household manufacturing lacking handmade artistic characteristics.
• Environmentally harmful production practices.
• Independent grant writers not directly supporting artisan groups.
• Designers or exporters who do not work directly with artisans.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted from July 15 through August 17, 2026.

The review process includes:

• Internal screening to verify eligibility and document completeness.
• Independent committee review of qualified applications.
• Email notification to successful and unsuccessful applicants.
• Verification of banking information before grant disbursement.

Applications will be reviewed during August 2026.

Successful applicants are expected to receive award notifications in September 2026, with grant payments anticipated during the first week of October 2026.
