Overview
This role offers the opportunity to support efforts related to the European carbon market, with a focus on decarbonising the steel industry through political advocacy, policy analysis, research, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse climate policy developments; recommend policy actions.
- Draft, edit, and disseminate research, briefings, and news articles.
- Investigate technical policy issues, including ETS steel benchmarks.
- Coordinate policy positions and campaign strategies with NGOs and partners.
- Engage with stakeholders such as policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, and funders.
- Organise events, webinars, and outreach activities.
- Support fundraising efforts and reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years’ relevant experience or outstanding candidates with less experience.
- Strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
- Knowledge of European/international policymaking processes.
- Skilled in research, policy analysis, and drafting briefing papers.
- Independent, flexible, and team-oriented work style.
- Ability to build networks among diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages advantageous.
- Residency in Belgium; ability to work from Brussels office twice a week.
- Expertise in the EU steel sector and decarbonisation strategies (desirable).
- Knowledge of carbon pricing, compliance markets, or industrial decarbonisation (desirable).
- Experience in research or advocacy roles within NGOs, think-tanks, or industry (desirable).
- Proven ability to adapt messaging for various audiences (desirable).
