    The CircularEconomy4Ghana Innovation Challenge 2026 is officially accepting applications from innovative startups, SMEs, and entrepreneurs developing transformative agritech and circular economy solutions that can contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and food-secure Ghana.

    Officially launched during the Ghana–Italy Circular Economy Dialogue, this prestigious innovation challenge is designed to identify and support promising early-stage businesses that are using technology, innovation, and sustainable business models to address agricultural challenges while advancing the circular economy.

    The initiative is led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT through the CGIAR Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) and implemented in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), UNIDO ITPO Italy, and E4Impact Foundation. The challenge is endorsed by Ghana’s National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP) and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

    About the CircularEconomy4Ghana Innovation Challenge

    The CircularEconomy4Ghana Innovation Challenge was created to empower innovators who are developing practical technologies and business solutions capable of transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector through circular economy principles.

    Rather than focusing solely on innovation, the challenge aims to help entrepreneurs refine their technologies, validate their products, access commercial markets, and scale their businesses to create long-term environmental, social, and economic impact.

    Participants will receive structured support that enables them to transition from promising ideas into market-ready businesses capable of serving farmers, agribusinesses, and agricultural value chains across Ghana.

    The initiative forms part of the CGIAR Food Frontiers & Security Science Program and MFL, supporting sustainable agriculture and innovation across developing economies.

    Objectives of the Challenge

    The program seeks to:

    • Promote circular economy solutions within Ghana’s agricultural sector.
    • Improve national food security.
    • Build climate resilience through sustainable agricultural innovation.
    • Support entrepreneurs developing scalable agritech technologies.
    • Help innovators validate products with real users.
    • Increase market readiness for early-stage businesses.

    Priority Innovation Areas

    Applicants should be developing solutions that address one or more of the following priority areas:

    1. Innovative Financing and Financial Access for Circular Agri-Enterprises

    Solutions that improve financial inclusion and create innovative financing mechanisms for businesses operating within the circular agricultural economy.

    2. Digital Advisory and Knowledge-Sharing Systems for Circular Agriculture

    Technologies that provide farmers and agricultural businesses with digital advisory services, knowledge-sharing platforms, and data-driven decision-making tools.

    3. Waste Segregation, Collection, and Valorization Systems

    Innovations that reduce agricultural waste while transforming waste into valuable products, resources, or new business opportunities.

    4. Nutrient Recovery and Circular Soil Fertility Solutions

    Solutions that recover nutrients from agricultural by-products and improve soil fertility through sustainable circular practices.

    5. Traceability, Data, and Supply Chain Efficiency for Circular Value Chains

    Technologies that improve transparency, traceability, logistics, and operational efficiency throughout agricultural supply chains.

    6. Inclusive Circular Business Models for Youth and Women

    Business models that create inclusive opportunities while empowering youth and women within Ghana’s agricultural value chains.

    Who Can Apply?

    The challenge is looking for ambitious innovators with promising agricultural technologies and circular economy solutions.

    Applicants should meet the following requirements:

    • Be a startup, SME, or entrepreneur.
    • Have an early-stage agritech innovation.
    • Possess a working Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
    • Ideally have already tested the MVP with end-users.
    • Be actively fundraising at either the pre-seed or seed stage.
    • Address real market needs.
    • Respond to local agricultural challenges.
    • Align with at least one of the identified priority areas.
    • Demonstrate measurable benefits for smallholder farmers and agricultural value chain actors.
