Overview
Applications are now open for the Climate Change and Press Freedom Fellow, a 12-month, fully paid fellowship designed to strengthen global advocacy for journalists reporting on environmental issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting original research and policy analysis on climate change and press freedom
- Performing a global landscape analysis using CPJ’s extensive data on journalist threats
- Designing and implementing a global survey targeting environmental journalists
- Identifying patterns of risk linked to corruption, corporate interests, and governance failures
- Developing recommendations for advocacy and safety interventions
- Building partnerships with civil society organizations, newsrooms, and international stakeholders
- Organizing roundtables, consultations, and regional meetings
- Producing reports, briefing materials, and public-facing content
Requirements
- Proven experience in climate change, environmental policy, or journalism
- Deep understanding of press freedom and global media dynamics
- Excellent research, writing, and critical thinking abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and within global teams
- Fluency in English (additional languages such as Spanish or French are an advantage)
- Proficiency in digital tools such as Google Workspace
