Overview
Carbon Market Watch is seeking a talented and experienced Communications Director to lead their communication strategies and work closely with the executive and policy teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to and advise on organizational strategy and political communication approach
- Develop overarching communication strategies, including campaign plans and AI use policies
- Expand audience reach while maintaining advocacy focus
- Collaborate with policy experts on communication for research and advocacy outputs
- Maintain and improve communications infrastructure and tools
- Edit and ensure high-quality publications, articles, press releases, and social media content
- Develop compelling narratives and messaging strategies
- Manage monthly newsletters and media relations
- Monitor media coverage and analyze trends for reporting
- Oversee website content updates and event communication support
- Lead regular team meetings and coordinate team deployment across projects
- Line manage communication officers and interns
- Provide capacity-building support to internal teams
- Support the executive director in external communications and advocacy
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, journalism, or related fields
- Proven team management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of French and Spanish advantageous
- Strong media relations experience
- Skilled in launching campaigns, events, and social media management
- Knowledge of EU/international climate policies
- Experience managing EU-funded projects and partner collaborations
- Strong interpersonal skills aligned with CMW values
