The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate, Women and Foreign Policy, offering an annual salary ranging from USD 55,000 to USD 58,000. Based in Washington, DC, the full-time position provides an opportunity for early-career professionals interested in international affairs, gender equality, and public policy to contribute to one of the United States’ leading foreign policy think tanks.
The successful candidate will support the Senior Fellow for Women and Foreign Policy by conducting research, coordinating events, managing administrative responsibilities, and contributing to publications that explore how advancing the rights and status of women and girls supports U.S. foreign policy objectives.
The Council on Foreign Relations is home to the David Rockefeller Studies Program, one of the largest and most respected foreign policy research institutions in the United States. Through research, publications, public engagement, and policy discussions, the programme aims to strengthen understanding of American foreign policy and global affairs.
The Women and Foreign Policy programme focuses on examining the connections between gender equality, international development, peace, security, and economic prosperity. Its research informs policymakers, opinion leaders, academics, and the public through evidence-based publications, briefings, roundtable discussions, and digital resources.
The Research Associate will work directly with the Senior Fellow for Women and Foreign Policy, providing both research and administrative support across a variety of projects.
This is a hybrid position based in CFR’s Washington, DC office. Employees are currently expected to work onsite at least three days per week, with Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays designated as institutional office days. Beginning 14 September 2026, staff will be required to work onsite at least four days each week.
