    Overview

    The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has announced its Internship Programme for the 2026/2028 cycle, offering structured opportunities for unemployed South African graduates to gain meaningful workplace experience within the public service.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide graduates with hands-on workplace experience in public sector operations
    • Develop technical and professional skills relevant to various fields of study
    • Enhance employability and readiness for the labour market
    • Contribute to building a skilled and capable public service workforce
    • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within government institutions
    • Support the dtic’s mandate of industrial growth and economic transformation

    Requirements

    Applications are invited from unemployed South African graduates who hold a tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher in any of the following fields of study:

    • Public Management / Public Administration
    • Business Management / Business Administration
    • Human Resource Management / Human Resource Development
    • Communication / Public Relations
    • Law
    • Software Development
    • Economics
    • Statistics / Econometrics
    • Agricultural Economics / Forestry Science
    • Development Studies
    • Accounting / Financial Management / Cost and Management Accounting
    • Risk Management
    • Internal Auditing / Auditing
    • Natural Sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering)
    • Mining Engineering / Metallurgy
    • Commerce
    • Occupational Health and Safety
    • Supply Chain Management / Procurement
    • International Politics

    Applicants must be unemployed and must not have previously participated in any internship programme within the public service related to their field of study.
