    Overview

    The Refugee Support Services (RSS) Employment Specialist position at the International Rescue Committee is designed for professionals committed to advancing economic independence among refugees and immigrants.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct client intake assessments and provide orientation to employment programs
    • Develop individualized employment plans and financial strategies
    • Deliver job readiness training, including resume preparation and interview coaching
    • Connect clients with suitable job opportunities through active job placement efforts
    • Build and maintain relationships with employers and staffing agencies
    • Provide post-placement support to both clients and employers
    • Monitor job performance, wages, and employment retention outcomes
    • Maintain accurate documentation and input data into required systems
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers
    • Support, train, or supervise volunteers, interns, and support staff

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred)
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in workforce development or employment services
    • Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations (strongly preferred)
    • Background in job placement or job readiness training is advantageous
    • Strong relationship-building and networking abilities
    • Cultural competence and effective communication in multicultural environments
    • Excellent time management and multitasking capabilities
    • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
    • Proficiency in English (additional languages are an asset)
    • Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle
