Overview
The Refugee Support Services (RSS) Employment Specialist position at the International Rescue Committee is designed for professionals committed to advancing economic independence among refugees and immigrants.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct client intake assessments and provide orientation to employment programs
- Develop individualized employment plans and financial strategies
- Deliver job readiness training, including resume preparation and interview coaching
- Connect clients with suitable job opportunities through active job placement efforts
- Build and maintain relationships with employers and staffing agencies
- Provide post-placement support to both clients and employers
- Monitor job performance, wages, and employment retention outcomes
- Maintain accurate documentation and input data into required systems
- Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers
- Support, train, or supervise volunteers, interns, and support staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of two years’ experience in workforce development or employment services
- Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations (strongly preferred)
- Background in job placement or job readiness training is advantageous
- Strong relationship-building and networking abilities
- Cultural competence and effective communication in multicultural environments
- Excellent time management and multitasking capabilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Proficiency in English (additional languages are an asset)
- Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle
