Overview

The Evelyn L. Pruitt National Fellowship for Dissertation Research offers competitive research funding for women pursuing doctoral studies in geography and related fields.

Eligibility

• Women enrolled in PhD programs
• Studying geography or geographically related disciplines
• Enrolled in doctoral programs at universities in the United States
• Ideally have completed comprehensive exams and an approved dissertation proposal
• Active engagement in dissertation research during the 2026–2027 academic year

Preference is given to candidates who are well advanced in their doctoral work and ready to conduct field research.

Benefits

The fellowship provides approximately 10 awards annually, each worth up to $12,000 USD. Funding may be used for:

• Fieldwork and travel expenses
• Data collection and analysis
• Research-related living expenses
• Writing and dissertation preparation

It does not cover tuition, university fees, or conference travel.
