The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), implemented by Chemonics International, is seeking a highly skilled to support its global food security analysis efforts. This consultancy offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful research aimed at preventing food insecurity and famine through data-driven insights and market analysis.
Since its establishment in 1985, FEWS NET has provided early warning and actionable intelligence to the U.S. Government and international partners on food insecurity trends. Now in its eighth phase (FEWS NET 8), the project continues to strengthen global capacity to understand and respond to food security challenges.
The FEWS NET 8 Knowledge Base (KB) is a $65 million initiative designed to enhance the organization’s understanding of market systems that influence food security outcomes.
The project focuses on:
Market Fundamentals (MF) research plays a key role by analyzing how markets function during a typical year, particularly for commodities essential to poor households’ livelihoods.
The Consultant will support Market Fundamentals research activities across multiple countries, contributing to the development of country-level MF Reports. The role emphasizes quantitative analysis, literature review, and report writing, with occasional leadership in drafting full reports depending on project needs.
The assignment is expected to run from May to October 2026, with a full-time level of effort over six months.
The Consultant will work under the guidance of the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for Market Fundamentals and collaborate closely with the FEWS NET Knowledge Base team.
