    The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the Embassy’s media engagement and digital communication activities while contributing to the promotion of French diplomatic initiatives in South Africa.

    About the Role

    The Media and Communications Officer will work closely with the Political Section to monitor South African media developments, strengthen relationships with journalists and support the Embassy’s digital communication strategy.

    The position requires an organised, creative and proactive individual who is comfortable working in a dynamic diplomatic environment and who has an interest in South African politics, French diplomacy and digital media trends.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Preparing daily reviews of the South African press.
    • Monitoring social media conversations and emerging digital trends.
    • Building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media organisations.

    • Organising media engagements and press-related activities.
    • Supporting the Embassy’s digital communication strategy.
    • Managing and updating the Embassy’s website.

    • Creating and contributing content for social media platforms, including video content.
    • Analysing media coverage relating to diplomatic initiatives, major events and crisis situations.
    • Providing communication support for public diplomacy activities.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants should possess:

    • A qualification in Communication, Journalism, Political Science or another relevant field.
    • Previous experience in communications, journalism or public relations, including internship experience.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.

    • Strong understanding of digital communication and major social media platforms.
    • Experience using Canva, video editing software or similar content creation tools.

    • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
    • Creativity and strong attention to detail.
    • An interest in France, diplomacy, South African society and digital culture.

    Advantageous Skills

    The following will be considered an added advantage:

    • Knowledge of the French language.
    • Previous exposure to diplomatic, governmental or international organisations.
    • Experience producing multimedia and digital content.

    French language proficiency is not mandatory, as the Embassy provides French language training.

    Salary and Benefits

    The successful candidate will receive a competitive employment package that includes:

    • Gross monthly salary of R45,059.
    • 13th month salary.
    • Medical aid.

    • French language courses.
    • Opportunity to obtain a permanent contract after successfully completing the qualifying period.
