The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) at the University of Toronto is a prestigious funding initiative designed to support exceptional postdoctoral researchers, with a focus on expanding opportunities for Indigenous and Black scholars.
This fellowship is open to Indigenous and/or Black researchers, including domestic and international applicants.

Successful fellows must also commence the fellowship by January 2027 and work under a University of Toronto supervisor affiliated with a graduate unit.
The fellowship provides $80,000 per year for up to two years to support the salary and employment costs of a postdoctoral fellow. This funding aligns with Canada’s most competitive postdoctoral awards.
Additionally, fellows receive a $5,000 annual start-up stipend for early research activities. Faculties and departments may supplement funding.
The program aims to increase the recruitment of Indigenous and Black postdoctoral researchers, strengthen research capacity, foster inclusive excellence, and help the university attract top international talent.
Prospective fellows cannot apply directly; they must be nominated by their faculty.

Each faculty may nominate up to three candidates per self-identification category.

Results announcement: Mid-June 2026
