Georgetown University announces scholarships and financial aid for Master of Global Human Development programme

Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) is inviting prospective students to apply for its Master of Global Human Development (GHD) programme, offering a range of merit-based scholarships, fellowships and financial aid opportunities for both domestic and international applicants.

The funding packages are designed to help students pursue graduate studies in global development while reducing the financial burden of tuition. Scholarships are available to applicants from all nationalities, with additional region-specific awards for students from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Philippines.

Applicants seeking scholarship consideration are encouraged to submit their applications by the priority deadline of 15 January, while the final application deadline for admission is 1 April.

Merit scholarships available for students worldwide

Georgetown University awards several merit-based scholarships each year to both new and returning students enrolled in the Master of Global Human Development programme.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and the overall strength of an applicant’s admission file.

    Available funding includes:

    • Full tuition scholarships.
    • Partial tuition scholarships.
    • Renewable scholarship awards for a second year, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Because scholarship funding is competitive and may not cover the full cost of attendance, applicants are encouraged to seek additional financial support through external funding organisations and scholarship programmes.

Priority application deadline for scholarship consideration

Students wishing to be considered for merit scholarships must:

    • Submit a completed application to the Master of Global Human Development programme.
    • Select the scholarship consideration option on the application form.
    • Apply no later than 15 January.

Applicants who submit applications after the priority deadline may still be considered for admission until 1 April, but they will not be eligible for university scholarship funding.

Coverdell Fellowship for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers admitted to the programme may qualify for the prestigious Coverdell Fellowship.

    Eligible fellows receive:

    • A minimum annual tuition scholarship of 33%.
    • Additional merit-based scholarship consideration.
    • Opportunities to complete internships serving underserved communities in the United States.
    • An application fee waiver for eligible Peace Corps applicants.

To be considered, applicants must submit:

    • All required admission documents.
    • A Peace Corps Description of Service (DOS).
    • GRE scores are recommended but are not mandatory.

    International student scholarships

Georgetown University also offers dedicated scholarship opportunities for international students from selected regions.

    Available awards include:

    • Sub-Saharan Africa
      • At least one full-tuition scholarship.
      • Several additional partial tuition scholarships.
    • The Philippines
      • The Father Bienvenido Nebres, S.J. Scholarship, covering full tuition for one eligible student.
    • Asia
      • Partial tuition scholarships for selected applicants.
    • Latin America
      • The Beeck Latin America Endowed Scholarship, covering 50% of tuition.
    • Middle East
      • Partial tuition scholarships for qualified applicants.

International students are also encouraged to explore education loans and scholarship programmes available through their home countries.

    Additional funding opportunities

Students who require further financial assistance are encouraged to apply for external funding sources, including:

    • Government financial aid programmes.
    • Graduate fellowships.
    • Public Service Loan Forgiveness programmes.
    • Language study scholarships.
    • Part-time employment opportunities.
    • Private foundation scholarships.

Applicants are advised to pursue external funding simultaneously with their university application, as many scholarship deadlines occur before or during the admissions cycle.

Programme prepares future global development leaders

The Master of Global Human Development programme equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address complex global challenges related to development, public policy, international cooperation and social innovation.

Graduates develop expertise that prepares them for careers in:

    • International development organisations.
    • Government agencies.
    • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
    • International financial institutions.
    • Humanitarian organisations.
    • Research institutions.
    • Social enterprises and nonprofit organisations.

    Scholarship application deadline

Prospective students interested in receiving scholarship funding should submit their completed application by 15 January to maximise their chances of securing financial assistance.

While applications for admission remain open until 1 April, only applicants who meet the priority deadline will be considered for Georgetown University’s merit-based scholarships and fellowships.

The university encourages qualified applicants from around the world to apply and take advantage of the available financial support to pursue graduate studies in global human development.
