About the Google Software Application Development Apprenticeship

The Google Software Application Development Apprenticeship is a full-time, 12-month learning and development programme that prepares participants for careers in software engineering and application development.

During the programme, apprentices are expected to work approximately 40 hours per week from their assigned Google office. Around 20% of the programme is dedicated to structured technical training, while the remaining time is spent working on real projects with Google teams.

Participants will gain practical exposure to:

Software application development.
Programming in multiple coding languages.
Software testing and quality assurance.
Project implementation.
Problem-solving using real-world engineering challenges.
Project management and collaborative software development.

The programme is intended to help apprentices build technical expertise while developing the professional skills needed for long-term careers in technology.

Once selected and onboarded, apprentices cannot transfer to another location during the programme.

Eligibility Requirements

Google encourages applications from individuals who have recently graduated and are interested in launching a career in software development.

Applicants must have:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
Less than one year of experience in software application development.
Programming experience in at least one programming language.

The apprenticeship is intended for individuals beginning their careers. Candidates currently pursuing or who have already completed specialised Software Engineering programmes are encouraged to explore Google’s graduate and internship opportunities instead.

An Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Additional government guidelines include:

Applicants may complete a maximum of two apprenticeships during their career, provided the second apprenticeship is not in the same trade.
Individuals who have previously completed apprenticeship training may apply only if at least one year has passed since completion, except in cases where the previous apprenticeship ended due to employer default.
Candidates whose previous apprenticeship contracts ended because they failed to meet contractual obligations may not be eligible under applicable regulations.
