Why this role is on the menu

Instacart's Policy & Government Affairs department advocates for public policy outcomes that support the long-term growth of our business and the success of our key stakeholders. This role leads Instacart's state and local government affairs in the midwest United States, where policymakers need to understand our business and its positive impact on their communities. Without it, engagement with state and local elected officials and other key stakeholders in the region lacks a dedicated lead, and cross-functional partners are less informed on new policy developments. Twelve months from now, Instacart has trusted relationships with policymakers across the region and a clear, regularly reported view of the policy landscape.

What you'll cook up in your first year

• Relationships with key policymakers and influential state and local government-oriented stakeholders are established across the midwest and central region, with policymakers educated on the value of Instacart's business to their constituents and the ecommerce landscape

• Legislative, regulatory and political strategies are crafted and executed to achieve state and local policy goals, supported by well-prepared hearings, regulatory proceedings and testimony in-person, virtually, or in writing

• Instacart is represented in midwestern and central region trade associations and industry coalitions, and third party political, advocacy and industry allies are built to support strategic policy objectives

• State and local policy solutions and comprehensive advocacy campaigns for key legislative priorities are created with Policy Research and Development, legal partners, other internal stakeholders and the Public Engagement team

• Cross-functional stakeholders are regularly educated on legislation and regulatory matters, with new policy developments reported on a regular cadence through weekly reports and other internal materials, and annual budgets and external consultants managed to reflect changing government affairs needs

The secret ingredients we're looking for

Must-have pantry staples (Minimum Qualifications)

• You have 5+ years of state or local government, policy or corporate government relations experience

• Y ou have established policymaker relationships and you confidently interact with elected officials and executives alike

• Y ou have a deep understanding of state and local lawmaking and regulatory processes

• You are a strategic thinker with polished oral and written presentation skills

• You thrive under pressure and can balance long and short-term priorities to deliver results

• You are resourceful and entrepreneurial with a bias towards action

• You are willing to travel frequently

• You are collaborative and bring a positive, can-do attitude to our table

Optional garnishes (Preferred Qualifications)

• Expertise in labor/workforce, ecommerce or tech policy preferred

• Experience with Slack preferred
