Overview
International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting Health Officers to support primary health care and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) service delivery in Borno State, Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential lifesaving health and SRH services across supported facilities.
- Rotate weekly among facilities to strengthen PHC staff and incentive workers’ capacity.
- Coordinate with supply chain for timely delivery and distribution of project commodities.
- Ensure proper archiving of project documents, waybills, delivery notes, and distribution plans for audit and reporting.
- Enforce Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and waste management standards.
- Facilitate drug distribution and maintain commodity stock levels at service points.
- Supervise incentive staff at IRC outreach and government PHCs.
- Oversee community mobilizers, referral agents, CHVs, TBAs, Henna, and Kayan Mata women for demand generation and community engagement.
- Provide on-the-job coaching, supportive supervision, and continuous medical education (CME) for incentive staff.
- Ensure timely submission of timesheets and administrative oversight of NHF-supported incentive workers.
- Submit weekly statistical reports, monthly data summaries, and service delivery updates to the M&E team.
- Assist the Health Manager in developing monthly summary reports and support program reviews for continuous improvement.
- Lead implementation of community health engagement strategies and SBCC/RCCE initiatives.
- Build capacity of local community structures for demand creation in health and SRH services.
- Participate in community-based surveillance and early warning for disease outbreaks.
Requirements
- Degree in Nursing Science; valid practicing license from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Experience supervising health staff at primary health care level.
- Experience in SRHR topics: FP, PAC, CCSAS, BEmONC, ANC/PNC, and safe delivery.
- Strong report writing, capacity building, and on-the-job coaching skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work with displaced populations and in basic field conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal, culturally sensitive, and collaborative skills.
