The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) seeks a highly skilled Strategic Communications Specialist to support the COP 31 and COP 32 Presidency Youth Climate Champions.

The role involves developing and executing strategic communication plans to promote youth engagement in climate policy, creating multimedia content, managing social media strategies, and providing editorial support during key events.

The position offers an opportunity to contribute to global climate action by amplifying youth voices and stories, particularly focusing on rural youth and innovative climate solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communication Development

• Design and implement communication strategies to raise awareness of the Youth Climate Champions (PYCC) roles, work plans, and impact.
• Develop clear, compelling narratives that promote youth engagement and support broader Presidency objectives.

Content Production and Management

• Produce high-quality multimedia content tailored to diverse audiences.
• Translate COP 31 and COP 32 PYCC objectives into engaging communication products.
• Manage social media strategies, ensuring consistent messaging aligned with UNFCCC priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination

• Coordinate with partners and UNFCCC multimedia teams to ensure timely content capture and dissemination.
• Draft speeches, briefing notes, and opinion pieces for PYCC representatives.
• Provide real-time editorial support during events, including messaging updates and content drafting.

Event Support and Reporting

• Support PYCC activities at climate events such as COP, Pre-COP, and climate weeks.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• University degree in journalism, communications, international relations, political economy, or related fields.

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years in journalism or strategic communications.
• Proven expertise in content development, storytelling, social media management, and multimedia content creation.
• Experience working with international organizations or the UN system is desirable.
• Supporting communication for public figures is an asset.

Skills

• Strong research, analytical, and fact-checking capabilities.
• Ability to produce high-quality outputs within tight deadlines.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of additional UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is advantageous.
