    Overview

    The International Rescue Committee is currently hiring for the role of Humanitarian Access Safety and Security Officer (HASSO) in Katsina, Nigeria. This role focuses on implementing security management plans in line with humanitarian principles and duty of care.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support efforts to maintain and expand safe humanitarian access to conflict-affected populations.
    • Develop and implement access strategies tailored to local contexts.
    • Engage stakeholders to promote safe program delivery.
    • Conduct risk assessments of offices and operational areas.
    • Organize regular security meetings and maintain training records.
    • Build relationships with local stakeholders to improve humanitarian access.
    • Monitor the operating environment and provide regular contextual analysis reports.
    • Support training and capacity building for staff on safety protocols.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Security Management or a related field.
    • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in security management, especially in humanitarian or insecure environments.
    • Fluency in English and at least one local language.
    • Strong analytical, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in risk assessment, incident reporting, and security training.
    • Familiarity with communication systems such as HF Codan and Motorola VHF is an advantage.
    • Knowledge of the context in northwest Nigeria and prior experience with international NGOs are beneficial.
