Overview
The Institute for Economic Justice is seeking a Researcher or Senior Researcher to join its Global Economic Governance (GEG) programme, focusing on high-level research, policy development, and advocacy to advance economic justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and produce high-quality, policy-relevant research outputs.
- Coordinate research activities across internal teams.
- Commission and oversee external research consultants.
- Translate complex analysis into accessible policy briefs, reports, and summary documents.
- Support and implement advocacy strategies with government institutions and civil society organisations.
- Develop policy proposals informed by research findings.
- Engage with media platforms, including radio and television.
- Produce and oversee advocacy materials.
- Contribute to the overall direction of the GEG programme.
- Participate in high-level policy forums and debates.
- Mentor junior researchers and team members.
- Support project planning, implementation, and reporting.
- Assist in drafting donor proposals and reports.
Requirements
- PhD (for Senior Researcher) or Master’s degree (for Researcher) in Economics, Development Studies, Finance, Public Administration, Sociology, or related fields.
- Strong research background in international financial issues: sovereign debt, international tax, financial institutions, and payment systems.
- Proven ability to produce policy-relevant research.
- Experience in policy development, advocacy, and public policy engagement.
- Familiarity with national, regional, or global policy processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical software (e.g., Stata or R).
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
Benefits
- Contract Duration: 3 years (renewable based on funding).
- Working Hours: Full-time.
- Salary Range: Senior Researcher: R916,321 – R1,145,401; Researcher: R687,241 – R859,051.
- Flexibility for remote work, with travel requirements depending on project needs.
