    About Global Artivism

    Global Artivism is a movement led by the Global Majority, harnessing arts and culture to foster justice, ecological integrity, and collective liberation.

    Led predominantly by those most affected by injustice from the Global South, the movement emphasizes cultural praxis as a vehicle for mobilization and systems change.

    Governed by a Global Council and supported by a Movement Secretariat, Global Artivism champions principles of South–South solidarity, distributed power, intersectionality, transparency, and emergence.

    Position Overview

    Global Artivism seeks a senior communications professional to establish and lead its communications function, shaping narrative, storytelling, campaigns, media engagement, and digital presence.

    The role involves developing movement-aligned messaging, managing content across platforms, coordinating campaigns, building external relationships, and managing partnerships with external agencies.

    Key Responsibilities

    Narrative Strategy & Movement Voice

    • Develop and maintain Global Artivism’s narrative framework and messaging
    • Ensure consistent, movement-aligned voice across all communications
    • Translate strategic priorities into public-facing language
    • Collaborate with leadership to align communication strategies with organizational goals

    Content & Digital Presence

    • Lead content creation across written, visual, and multimedia formats
    • Manage website, social media channels, newsletters, and digital calendar
    • Develop editorial standards reflecting Global Majority leadership and South–South perspectives
    • Build systems for consistent content production in resource-limited, distributed environments

    Campaign & Event Communications

    • Lead communication strategies for Global Artivism campaigns and milestones
    • Develop messaging frameworks, partner toolkits, and amplification materials
    • Support regional gatherings and virtual assemblies with strategic communication

    Media & External Engagement

    • Build and nurture relationships with journalists and media outlets
    • Prepare spokesperson materials, talking points, and media strategies
    • Position Global Artivism within global conversations on arts, climate, and social justice

    Agency & Capacity Management

    • Manage relationships with external communication agencies and partners
    • Develop internal communication systems and processes to support growth
    • Build capacity within the movement’s communication team

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Proven experience leading communications for international civil society, movement, or cultural organizations
    • Ability to craft accessible, resonant narratives for diverse global audiences
    • Experience managing digital channels and content in resource-limited environments

    • Strong English writing skills; multilingual abilities valued
    • Independent contractor management experience
    • Commitment to the values and principles of Global Artivism

    Preferred

    • Experience in arts, culture, or social justice communications, especially within the Global South
    • Familiarity with Global South media landscapes
    • Experience managing teams and external agencies
    • Knowledge of campaign communication and partner engagement strategies

    Contractor Status & Work Arrangement

    This is an independent contractor role, with flexible scheduling, responsible for own taxes and compliance, and may serve other clients. Regular participation in meetings across time zones is expected.
