About WIEGO

Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is a global network supporting the movement of workers in informal employment, especially women and people living in poverty. We believe all workers should have equal economic opportunities, rights and protections. WIEGO works to expand research and statistics on the informal economy, promote change through policy advocacy, and build collective voice by supporting, strengthening and connecting organizations of workers in informal employment.

The Project

Climate change is already having a profound impact on workers in informal employment, affecting livelihoods, health and access to public space. WIEGO is working alongside a consortium of global networks of workers in the informal economy to successfully implement a Climate Change project funded by the ClimateWorks Foundation.

We’re looking for an experienced Network Climate Adaptation Specialist to help lead this work. This is an exciting opportunity to work across an international partnership, providing technical expertise, building relationships and helping organisations learn from one another to strengthen climate adaptation efforts around the world.

The Role

Working closely with WIEGO, partner networks and the ClimateWorks Foundation, you’ll help ensure the successful delivery of this ambitious two-year project while supporting collaboration, learning and strategic influence across the partnership. Key responsibilities include:

• Provide technical advice and guidance to participating networks and their affiliates on climate-related activities and approaches under the project.
• Facilitate communication, collaboration and peer learning between WIEGO, the networks and their affiliates, helping to build a stronger community of practice around climate action within the network.
• Represent the Network with donors, allies and other stakeholders in online communication and at in-person events that may require international travel.
• Identify opportunities for strategic engagement, alliance-building and influence within relevant urban climate policy and advocacy processes.
• Support networks and affiliates to monitor, document and communicate project outcomes, lessons learned and emerging evidence.
• Attend Project Steering Committee meetings to stay informed about all actions by WIEGO and the Networks under this project.
• Supervise a part-time Project Assistant.
• Support Networks and their affiliates in troubleshooting issues that arise under the project.
• Review and edit reports to the donor, ensuring they reflect up-to-the-minute climate change information and accurately convey the project’s outcomes and impact.
• Other duties that may arise over the course of the 2-year project, to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

About You

Essential Criteria

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has a Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in climate change, labour studies, urban development or a related discipline.
• Has experience managing complex projects, including budgets and reporting requirements.
• Has experience working with donors and managing donor relationships.
• Has experience working with grassroots organisations, membership-based organisations or social movements.
• Has previous experience supervising and supporting colleagues.
• Has excellent relationship-building and facilitation skills, with the ability to bring together organisations from different countries and contexts.
• Is an excellent communicator, able to adapt their style for a range of audiences, from community organisations to donors and external stakeholders.
• Can think strategically while remaining organised and practical in day-to-day delivery.
• Is comfortable working independently while collaborating across an international team.
• Is available to work up to 22.5 hours (3 days) per week.
• Able to work flexibly across time zones to ensure effective collaboration with partners, particular in Africa and South-East Asia.

Desirable Criteria

It would be an advantage if you:

• Have experience working on climate adaptation, climate justice or urban policy.
• Have experience working within international networks or coalitions.
• Have experience supporting learning, knowledge sharing or communities of practice across organisations.

The role will commence in September 2026 and will initially be offered on a fixed-term consultancy contract until 31 March 2027. Subject to satisfactory performance and the continuation of project funding, it is anticipated that the contract will be extended in line with the project, which is expected to run for a total of two years.

Fees will be agreed according to qualifications and experience and will be paid monthly on submission of an invoice and timesheet.

This is a home-based role. The successful candidate will need access to suitable computer equipment and a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
