The Global Fishing Watch has launched its Open Ocean Research Grant Program 2026, inviting researchers worldwide to apply for funding to support innovative projects focusing on ocean governance, sustainability, and marine data analysis.

Eligibility

Graduate students (Master’s and PhD)
Postdoctoral researchers
Independent researchers and research teams
Experts in marine science, GIS, AI, big data, and environmental studies

Benefits

The program offers financial support under two categories:

Individual Projects: Up to US$10,000
Group Projects: Up to US$20,000

How to Apply

To begin the application process, candidates must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) through the official submission platform. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the informational webinar on April 14, which provides guidance on the application process.
