Location: Flexible (remote); Must be located and eligible to work in the U.S. now and in the future. Must be based in Mountain, Central, or Eastern US time zones.  
Annual Salary: $66,300

Responsibilities & Duties 

CDP has experienced exponential growth over our 15-year history, granting over $123 million to more than 676 nonprofits. As CDP’s positioning and visibility continue to expand, so does the need for additional capacity. Currently, the international funds team is comprised of one program officer and two program managers who are actively managing 120+ open grants with about $10 million available for mid- to long-term recovery grantmaking. Additional team capacity is needed to effectively manage our growing portfolio.   

As part of the fund management and coalition building team (FMCB), the program associate, international funds will play an integral role in supporting the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) international fund management efforts. This position assists the program officer for international funds with data collection, analysis for fund design and implementation, and administrative tasks related to fund management. Additionally, the program associate will contribute to the success of the international funds team by aiding program managers in grantmaking activities and fostering relationships with grantee partners.  

As a fully remote workforce, CDP prioritizes employee engagement and relationship building in service of a collaborative culture rooted in equity. To this end, in-person team retreats are scheduled throughout the year in different regions of the U.S.  This role will be expected to attend 2-3 retreats per year, which average 3-5 days of travel.

This position requires prioritizing needs, acting proactively, and following through on projects, sometimes with limited direction. A commitment to advancing the values of CDP is essential, as is an ambassadorial approach to representing CDP externally with grantee partners and others.  

Primary responsibilities include: 

Reporting to the program officer for international funds, the international funds program associate plays an important role in supporting the organization’s international funds management, grantmaking and administrative support.  

Fund management assistance

• Conduct supplementary desk research into potential new or ongoing disasters and crises (context, needs, gaps, actors) and synthesize data into digestible, reader-friendly formats as requested. 
• Assist program officer in monitoring internal and external-facing funds written documentation and consultative processes (fund pages, fund strategy documents, reports, etc.) 
• Assist in creating quarterly grant reports for CDP leadership that include relevant, useful details on grant activity, recovery trends and learning. 
• Assist program officer in managing administrative and budget functions relating to the fund program, including but not limited to the use of CDP’s grant management and constituent relationship management database, disaster and needs assessment tracking and team travel opportunities. 
• Assist program managers in maintaining grantmaking strategy documents for assigned funding streams, utilizing needs assessment data from desk research.  

International team support 

• Support the team in collecting and tracking data as well as managing information for decision making, with the ability to analyze, synthesize and convey data in easy-to-understand and appealing formats, including written reports, simple charts, graphs, infographics, PowerPoint presentations and more. 
• Provide support for meetings and convenings, including scheduling, material preparation and distribution, and tracking progress and actions.  
• Support shoe-leather philanthropy trips, impact stories and other engagements with grantee partners.  
• Maintain records of minutes and action items from key internal and external meetings and ensure appropriate follow-up on behalf of the international grantmaking team. 

Other duties and responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to emails from the international grants inbox. Respond to emails and telephone calls requesting general information about CDP grantmaking and the status of proposals, as well as inquiries and proposals that fall outside of CDP’s interests and focus. 
• Become conversant about organizational funding interests, our service offerings and CDP’s culture. 
• Support the implementation of CDP’s strategic goals and objectives. 
• Other duties as required to support the FMCB team.  

This position reports to the program officer, international funds, but works in service of the whole organization.  

Required qualifications and skills: 

• ≥ 3 years of relevant progressive professional experience in philanthropy, disasters, nonprofits and/or social programs. 
• Demonstrated ability to work independently. 
• Superior written and verbal communication skills – demonstrated ability to effectively respond to others that may not be subject matter experts. 
• Demonstrated ability to take proactive approaches to problem-solving.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and social media platforms.  

Preferred qualifications and skills: 

• Familiarity with, although not necessarily a professional background in, the philanthropic or disaster fields. 
• Understanding of post-disaster humanitarian needs assessments and reporting as well as the global humanitarian architecture, and/or experience utilizing assessment and mapping tools, preferred.    
• Spanish language proficiency preferred. 
• Experience working with Raiser’s Edge NXT or a comparable constituent relationship management (CRM) system. 
• Willingness to learn and utilize project management and client relationship tools. 
• Ability to quickly learn new systems and feel comfortable navigating them. 
• Experience with Blackbaud Grantmaking is a plus.
