The successful candidate will manage content development, build strategic partnerships, support fundraising efforts, supervise contributors and project staff, and represent the project nationally within activist and academic spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Development (65%)
- Lead and steward the Roots of Reproductive Justice Project
- Oversee development and maintenance of historical content
- Ensure historical accuracy, integrity, and scholarly standards
- Develop and maintain the project’s narrative framework
- Conduct content audits and identify content gaps
- Write stories, timeline entries, and related project materials
- Manage contributing authors, editors, and advisors
- Build partnerships with reproductive justice organisations
- Support activists and movement leaders through historical resources
- Co-design digital tools and educational materials
- Organise webinars, symposia, convenings, and workshops
- Establish and engage an advisory board
- Maintain relationships with contributors and stakeholders
Project Management and Operations (15%)
- Establish annual goals and performance metrics
- Monitor project progress and evaluation outcomes
- Manage project budgets and reporting requirements
- Oversee contracts and agreements with contributors
- Support fundraising and grant reporting activities
- Coordinate project communications and outreach efforts
- Supervise project staff, contractors, interns, and students
- Maintain project databases and information systems
External Representation (10%)
- Serve as a public representative of the project
- Facilitate training and engagement activities
- Cultivate relationships with funders and donors
- Present at conferences, panels, workshops, and academic events
Other Duties (10%)
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the organisation
Minimum Requirements
Education
- PhD in U.S. History, Women/Gender History, Social Movement History, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent demonstrated expertise will also be considered
Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of historical research and writing experience
- At least 5 years of experience within reproductive justice and/or social justice movements
- Proven project management experience
- Experience developing partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional writing and editing abilities
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Excellent organisational and multitasking capabilities
- Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and deadline management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and databases
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing networks within historical, academic, reproductive justice, and activist communities
- Experience collaborating with scholars, organisers, and educators on national initiatives
Travel Requirements
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends
- National and international travel may be required
- Typically 1–2 trips per quarter
- During the first six months, travel to Northampton, Massachusetts is expected 1–2 times per month

Compensation and Benefits
Salary
- USD $86,000 – $96,000 annually
