The Washing Machine Project (TWMP), a UK-based social enterprise dedicated to reducing the burden of handwashing clothes in low-income and displaced communities, has announced a new opportunity for a Communications & Outreach Executive based in India. The full-time hybrid role, offering a salary range of ₹10–13 lakh per annum, is designed to strengthen the organisation’s visibility, partnerships, and impact across India and beyond.

As the organisation continues its mission of empowering women through accessible, off-grid washing solutions, the new appointment will play a critical role in supporting communications, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and lead generation activities.

Supporting a Mission to Empower Women Globally

The Washing Machine Project was established to address the significant challenges faced by millions of women and girls who spend countless hours washing clothes by hand. The organisation believes that unpaid labour negatively affects health, education, economic participation, and overall wellbeing.

Through innovative manual washing machine solutions and strategic partnerships, TWMP aims to create sustainable change while helping women reclaim valuable time for education, employment, and personal development.

    The organisation’s core values include:

    • Starting with people and prioritising community needs.
    • Innovating for social good.
    • Building sustainable and lasting solutions.

Key Responsibilities of the Communications & Outreach Executive

The successful candidate will work closely with TWMP leadership, including the CEO, Brand & Communications Manager, marketing team, and partnership specialists.

    Primary responsibilities include:

    Lead Generation and Market Outreach

    • Identifying and researching prospective NGOs, government agencies, CSR departments, distributors, and institutional buyers.
    • Building and maintaining outreach databases.
    • Conducting targeted communication campaigns through email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and other approved channels.
    • Tracking leads and managing follow-up activities.
    • Identifying procurement opportunities, tenders, and partnership prospects.

    Partnership and Procurement Support

    • Assisting with relationship-building initiatives.
    • Preparing tailored communications and briefing materials.
    • Supporting proposal development and capability presentations.
    • Maintaining detailed records of opportunities and stakeholder engagements.

    Marketing and Campaign Development

    • Supporting awareness campaigns that promote TWMP’s mission and services.
    • Creating audience-specific content and messaging.
    • Assisting with case studies, announcements, and partner communications.
    • Ensuring consistency across all external communications.

Focus on External Communications and Media Relations

An important aspect of the role involves managing communications with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, government institutions, corporate partners, and media organisations.

    Responsibilities in this area include:

    • Drafting professional external correspondence.
    • Tailoring messages to different stakeholder groups.
    • Coordinating communication activities and follow-ups.
    • Building relationships with journalists and media outlets across India.
    • Preparing press releases, media pitches, and briefing documents.

The executive will also support speaking engagements, industry conferences, awards submissions, and sector-related events to further strengthen TWMP’s public profile.

    Ideal Candidate Profile

The organisation is seeking a proactive and highly organised communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

    Essential qualifications include:

    • A minimum of two years of experience in communications, marketing, business development, partnerships, public relations, or related fields.
    • Strong copywriting and editing skills.

    • Knowledge of the Indian media landscape.
    • Excellent organisational and project management abilities.
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace and CRM-style databases.
    • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple channels.

Candidates with experience in social impact organisations, humanitarian initiatives, CSR engagement, procurement-led sales, or startup environments will have an added advantage.

Flexible Working and Career Development Opportunities

The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing professionals to balance flexibility with meaningful work. While the role is based in India, collaboration with UK-based teams may occasionally require participation in early morning or evening meetings.

Employees joining The Washing Machine Project can expect:

    • Purpose-driven career development opportunities.
    • Flexible and autonomous work culture.
    • Exposure to international partnerships and development projects.
    • Opportunities to contribute to large-scale social impact initiatives.
    • Collaboration with diverse global stakeholders.

Driving Toward a Goal of One Million Lives Impacted by 2030

Since launching its Divya Washing Machine initiative in 2018, The Washing Machine Project has expanded operations across multiple countries and positively impacted tens of thousands of people. The organisation reports that more than 46,000 individuals had benefited from its solutions by August 2025.

Looking ahead, TWMP has set an ambitious target of reaching one million people by 2030. Achieving this objective will require stronger partnerships, increased awareness, and enhanced stakeholder engagement—making the Communications & Outreach Executive role a strategic addition to the organisation’s growth plans.

    Application Process and Closing Date

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications, including a CV, portfolio, and a brief cover letter demonstrating their suitability for the position and alignment with TWMP’s mission.
