Research Coordinator – AI Research Programme (Contract)
Dataphyte, a media, research, and data analytics organisation headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, is seeking a highly skilled Research Coordinator to lead the delivery of its AI Research programme. The organisation leverages data and technology to drive socio-economic development across Africa, working across key thematic areas such as Health, Agriculture, Security, AI and Digital Governance, and more.
This two-year contract role (June 2026 – June 2028) is a senior-level position focused on coordinating and overseeing high-impact research outputs. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of working papers, policy briefs, and technical reports produced by both internal and external researchers.
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for designing rigorous research frameworks, commissioning qualified researchers, and ensuring that all outputs meet Dataphyte’s standards for quality, accessibility, and impact. This role is primarily strategic and managerial rather than execution-focused.
Key responsibilities include leading research design (methodology, scope, and ethical considerations), coordinating and managing a network of researchers and subject-matter experts, and providing quality assurance through structured feedback and peer review processes. The role also involves stakeholder engagement with government agencies, development partners, academic institutions, and media organisations, as well as supporting research dissemination and donor reporting.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong research leadership, technical oversight capabilities, and project management expertise. They must be proficient in quantitative methods and familiar with tools such as Python, R, or Stata, with a solid understanding of machine learning research and AI governance frameworks. Strong writing and analytical communication skills are essential.
Applicants should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative social science or data-related discipline, with a master’s degree or PhD considered an advantage. Candidates must have at least three to five years of experience in research coordination or programme management, preferably within the AI, data, or digital governance sector. Experience managing external researchers and producing high-quality research outputs is required.
Key deliverables include producing at least five high-impact research outputs within the first year, establishing a functional research delivery pipeline within 60 days, and building a network of at least 15 vetted research partners within six months.
Remuneration is competitive and based on experience, with access to Dataphyte’s research infrastructure and networks.
