    Overview

    The SOAS Teaching Scholarships offer fully funded doctoral opportunities for Black British students and students based in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East pursuing MPhil/PhD programmes at SOAS University of London. The scholarship aims to support students from underrepresented communities, providing full tuition coverage, a maintenance stipend, and teaching experience.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must be pursuing a full-time MPhil/PhD programme at SOAS University of London starting in the 2026–2027 academic year.

    Eligibility categories:

    • Black British students (Black African, Black Caribbean, Black British, Mixed Black heritage) who are permanent residents in the UK.
    • Students ordinarily resident in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East.
    • One scholarship is specifically reserved for a Palestinian national ordinarily resident in historic Palestine.

    Additional requirements:

    • Must have received an offer of admission to a full-time MPhil/PhD programme at SOAS.
    • Meet English language requirements by 10 May 2026.
    • Not hold another major scholarship concurrently.

    Applicants must also submit a widening participation statement of up to 800 words, detailing their background in relation to the scholarship's goals, reasons for studying at SOAS, career aspirations, and the expected impact of their research.

    Step 2: Once the programme application is submitted, apply for the SOAS Teaching Scholarship through the admissions portal using the login details provided after the programme application.
