Overview

The role of Staff Software Engineer focuses on backend development and integrations for Affirm's Deal Reporting team. This team is dedicated to building integrations and automating funding processes while working collaboratively across multiple functions within Affirm.

Key Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long timeline tied to significant business projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical feasibility and manage risks.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes to support team efficiency.
• Oversee team operations and ensure systemic monitoring and feedback mechanisms are in place.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by promoting code review and design standards.
• Develop team talent through guidance, feedback, and leading by example.
• Participate in on-call rotation as required.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in backend system design and development using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Spark and task orchestration systems like Airflow or Temporal is preferred.
• Proven track record of delivering major system features and high-quality code.
• Ability to navigate and understand both low-level idioms and large system architectures.
• Strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration within a global team.
