Job Title: WBG Africa Fellowship Program 2027 – Ph.D. Graduates and Candidates
Location: Washington, D.C. or Country Offices, Sub-Saharan Africa
Closing Date: August 25, 2026
Contract: Six-month assignment as Extended Term Consultants (ETCs) starting January 2027
The World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Program 2027 is now accepting applications.
The program supports talented African nationals who are completing or have recently completed a Ph.D. in fields relevant to the World Bank’s work.
Selected fellows will undertake a six-month assignment at WBG headquarters in Washington, D.C., or at a country office, gaining practical experience in research, economic policy, technical assistance, and operations.
Women are strongly encouraged to apply. The program aims to foster the development of Africa’s next generation of leaders in development research, policymaking, and poverty reduction.
The Africa Fellowship Program is designed to build capacity among young African scholars interested in development careers.
Since inception, the program has successfully created a pipeline of talent for roles in international institutions, African governments, think tanks, and academia.
Fellows will work on diverse projects that contribute to the WBG’s mission of reducing poverty and promoting shared prosperity across Africa.
Phase I: Shortlisting based on eligibility and specialization, with notifications to candidates.
Phase II: Final selection in collaboration with WBG units. Successful candidates will be notified and, upon acceptance, hired as Extended Term Consultants for the six-month period beginning January 2027.
