    The UK Mission to the European Union is recruiting a Climate & Energy Attaché to join the Trade, Sustainability and Markets Team.

    The role involves strengthening the UK-EU partnership on climate and energy policy, providing high-quality advice, and supporting negotiations with the European Commission.

    About the UK Mission to the EU

    The UK Mission to the European Union (UKMIS) represents British interests in Brussels, focusing on foreign policy, economic relations, and climate change.

    UKMIS aims to foster a positive, inclusive, and diverse working environment, promoting equality and flexible working arrangements. The mission operates within a global network, working closely with UK Government departments and EU institutions.

    Key Responsibilities

    Core Duties

    • Monitor and analyse EU climate and energy policies, assessing implications for the UK.
    • Provide strategic advice and briefings to UKMIS and UK Government colleagues, including senior officials and Ministers.

    • Build and maintain relationships with EU institutions, Member States, and stakeholders to promote UK interests.
    • Lead engagement on EU clean technology, renewable energy policy, and broader enablers of renewables such as grid connection and storage.
    • Support UK involvement in EU climate change issues under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement, including carbon markets and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).

    • Assist in ministerial and official visits, including briefing, stakeholder engagement, and logistical coordination.
    • Collaborate across UKMIS teams and contribute to wider strategic priorities.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Contribute to shaping UK-EU engagement strategies.
    • Support policy development and stakeholder engagement activities.
    • Provide expert advice on EU climate legislation and international climate processes.
    • Participate in and support events, panels, and conferences related to climate and energy.

    Candidate Profile

    Essential Skills and Experience

    • Full professional proficiency in English (minimum C2 CEFR).
    • At least 5 years of experience working on EU policy with a solid understanding of EU institutions and legislative processes.

    • Strong technical knowledge of climate and energy policy, including carbon markets and clean technology.
    • Ability to develop networks across EU institutions, Member States, and stakeholders.
    • Experience communicating complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

    • Proven ability to organize and participate in high-profile events.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and capable of working independently within a team.
    • Analytical skills to monitor external developments and assess their impact.

    Desirable Skills

    • Proficiency in French or another European language.

    Compensation and Benefits
