The United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Latin America and the Caribbean 2026 is a fully funded training program for legal professionals in the region. Organized by the UN Office of Legal Affairs in cooperation with the Government of Chile and ECLAC, it provides intensive instruction in public international law.
Candidates must have a legal background, professional experience in international law, be fluent in English, and certify availability for the full duration of the course. The course is open exclusively to candidates from Member States belonging to the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) at the United Nations. Current UN staff members, students without practical experience, are not eligible.
The Regional Course is open to government officials, members of the judiciary, legal advisors, academics, professionals from intergovernmental organizations, and professionals from non-governmental organizations engaged in international law activities.
Selected participants, known as fellowship participants, will have the following covered:
A limited number of spaces are available for self-funded participants, who must cover their own travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses. Training materials are provided to all participants.
Candidates must complete the official application form and submit required documentation by the deadline. Applications are submitted directly to the Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs. Sponsoring institutions must complete relevant sections of the application form, but candidates may submit the completed form themselves.
A new and complete application must be submitted if reapplying after not being selected previously.
