    Driver (GS-2) – Temporary Appointment | UN OCHA / UNDP | Maiduguri, Borno State

    The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), under the United Nations Secretariat, is recruiting three (3) Drivers (GS-2) for 6-month temporary appointments at its Maiduguri Sub-Office in Borno State. The role supports frontline humanitarian operations across north-east Nigeria.

    About OCHA
    OCHA coordinates global humanitarian response efforts by bringing together partners to ensure effective and principled action during emergencies. Its mission is to alleviate human suffering, advocate for vulnerable populations, and promote preparedness and sustainable solutions in crisis-affected areas.

    Position Overview
    The Driver will report to the Administration Assistant and provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for personnel, materials, and official assignments while ensuring proper vehicle maintenance and compliance with UN operational standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide safe transport of authorized personnel and delivery/collection of documents and materials.
    • Meet official visitors at airports and assist with basic arrival procedures when required.
    • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel usage records, and support cost-efficiency.
    • Ensure routine maintenance of assigned vehicles, including minor repairs, servicing, oil checks, tire and brake inspection, and cleanliness.
    • Ensure all required vehicle documents and supplies are up-to-date (insurance, first aid kit, logbooks, etc.).
    • Take appropriate action in case of accidents in line with UN regulations.
    • Provide guidance to junior staff where necessary.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Education

    • Secondary School Certificate
    • Valid driver’s license

    Experience

    • Minimum of 2 years’ professional driving experience
    • Strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations
    • Experience with office vehicles, including armored vehicles (AV), is required
    • Experience in vehicle maintenance, logbook management, and reporting
    • Prior experience with the UN or international NGOs is an advantage
    • Experience in emergency or north-east Nigeria contexts is desirable

    Language Requirements

    • Fluency in English (required)
    • Knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri (desirable)
