Overview

The Center for African Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, is offering 2027 Visiting Fellowships for Africa-based researchers. This fellowship program, supported by the Mastercard Foundation, allows scholars from African institutions to conduct independent research and engage with the academic community at UC Berkeley.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct independent academic research
Complete a major journal article, policy paper, or academic book manuscript
Collaborate with faculty members and researchers at UC Berkeley
Contribute to academic dialogue within the Center for African Studies
Mentor students in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

Requirements

Residents of an African country
Affiliated with an African institution (university, research institute, think tank, or NGO)
Hold a PhD at the time of application
Have received PhD on or before January 2022
Demonstrate strong potential for meaningful contributions to their field
