Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has announced its scholarship opportunities for international students seeking to begin a Master’s degree in September 2027, with several programmes offering substantial financial support to outstanding candidates.

The scholarships are aimed at talented international students, including applicants from Africa and developing countries, and can provide support covering tuition fees, living expenses, travel, health insurance and visa costs.

The university has emphasised that its main scholarship programmes are intended for prospective MSc students and are available only for the September intake. Students already enrolled at Wageningen University cannot apply for these scholarship programmes.

The main application deadline for the relevant MSc programmes is 1 December 2026.

    Wageningen University Excellence Programme

The Wageningen University Excellence Programme is designed to attract academically outstanding international students from outside the European Union and European Free Trade Association.

Successful recipients receive a tuition fee waiver for the full 24-month duration of their Master’s programme.

    Applicants must:

    • Be citizens of a country outside the EU and EFTA.
    • Apply for an eligible Wageningen MSc programme before 1 December 2026.
    • Receive unconditional admission to the selected MSc programme.
    • Have a GPA of at least 80%.
    • Hold a First Class Honours bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
    • Meet the university’s English-language requirements before the application deadline.
    • Complete their bachelor’s degree before 1 December 2026.
    • Upload the required academic documents and supporting materials before the deadline.

The scholarship is invitation-based. Around March or April 2027, selected applicants will be invited to the final stage, after which a lottery will determine the scholarship recipients.

The Excellence Scholarship is scheduled to be offered on 7 April 2027 to selected students.

Africa Scholarship Programme Offers Fully Funded Master’s Support

The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) is designed specifically for talented and motivated students from African countries who want to pursue a Master’s degree at Wageningen University.

The programme aims to support capacity building in Africa by enabling high-achieving students to obtain advanced academic training.

    The scholarship package covers:

    • Travel to and from the Netherlands.
    • Living allowance for 24 months.
    • Tuition fees for 24 months.
    • Visa costs.
    • Health insurance costs.

    To be considered, applicants must:

    • Be citizens of an African country.
    • Submit a complete MSc application before 1 December 2026.
    • Receive unconditional admission to a Wageningen MSc programme.
    • Hold a First Class Honours bachelor’s degree.

    • Meet the English-language requirements before 1 December 2026.
    • Complete their bachelor’s degree before the deadline.
    • Upload their bachelor’s diploma and all required supporting documents.

Preference is given to applicants who have not yet obtained a Master’s degree.

Meeting the requirements does not guarantee an invitation, as only eligible applicants may be invited to the ASP scholarship selection process. Final-stage applicants are expected to be notified around March or April 2027, with the scholarship offers scheduled for 7 April 2027.

Anne van den Ban Fund Supports Students from Developing Countries

The Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF) provides scholarship opportunities for talented students from developing countries seeking to study at Wageningen University.

The programme is combined with the WU Fellowship Programme and is intended for international students beginning an MSc programme in September 2027 who have received unconditional admission.

    The scholarship provides:

    • Travel to and from the Netherlands.
    • Living allowance for 24 months.
    • Tuition fee coverage for 24 months.
    • Visa costs.
    • Health insurance costs.

Applicants must submit a complete MSc application before 1 December 2026, including the required English-language results and bachelor’s degree documentation.

Unlike some other programmes, the ABF scholarship is based on invitation, meaning students cannot submit a direct application specifically for the scholarship.

Selected candidates are expected to receive notification during May 2027, although the exact date will be announced by Wageningen University.

    Important Requirements for Prospective Applicants

Applicants seeking consideration for Wageningen University scholarships should begin preparing their MSc applications well before the deadline.

    • Other supporting documents required for the selected MSc programme.
    • Evidence meeting the programme-specific admission requirements.
