Overview

The Wellcome Accelerator Awards 2026 are a prestigious funding opportunity designed to support researchers of Black, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani heritage across the United Kingdom.

Eligibility

The awards are specifically open to researchers who self-identify as belonging to one of the following heritage backgrounds:

• Black heritage backgrounds
• Bangladeshi heritage backgrounds
• Pakistani heritage backgrounds
• Mixed heritage backgrounds including these identities

Applicants must also:

• Be currently working in the UK or ordinarily resident in the UK
• Hold either an undergraduate degree or a PhD from a UK institution
• Have completed substantial research training

Benefits

Successful applicants may receive:

• Salary support (if required)
• Up to £200,000 for project-related expenses

The funding period lasts up to 2 years and can be used flexibly depending on the applicant’s proposed career development and research plan.
