Wetlands International Eastern Africa is inviting applications for the position of Project Officer – Kenya, based in Nairobi, Kenya. About the Project Officer Role

The Project Officer will play a central role in coordinating the day-to-day implementation of projects under the Kenya Programme. Working closely with project partners, government agencies, local communities, donors, and internal teams, the successful candidate will help ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, within approved budgets, and in compliance with organisational policies and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Officer will support the successful delivery of projects through a range of responsibilities, including:

• Coordinating the implementation of conservation and development projects within the Kenya Programme.
• Supporting project planning to ensure activities are delivered according to approved work plans.
• Coordinating with implementing partners, government institutions, and community organisations.
• Monitoring project budgets and ensuring effective financial oversight.
• Preparing technical and donor reports in line with project requirements.
• Supporting stakeholder engagement and maintaining productive working relationships with partners.
• Assisting with procurement processes and contract management activities.
• Ensuring compliance with organisational policies, donor regulations, and project objectives.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following academic qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
  • Environmental Science
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Environmental Management
  • Water Resources Management
  • Conservation
  • Geography
  • Or another closely related discipline.
• A Master’s degree will be considered an added advantage.

Professional Experience

To be considered for the position, candidates should demonstrate:

• Four to five years of experience coordinating donor-funded development or conservation projects.
• Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects involving diverse partners.
• Proven experience in project planning, implementation, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting.
• Experience working with government institutions and community-based organisations.
• Experience supporting procurement activities and contract management.
• Previous experience working with an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) is desirable.
