The Words Without Borders is inviting applications for its 2026–27 Editorial Fellowship, a part-time, remote opportunity designed to support emerging professionals seeking to build careers in international publishing and literary editing.

Key Responsibilities

Participating in editorial meetings and contributing to planning discussions
Preparing, formatting, and uploading digital content for publication
Managing contributor contracts and maintaining editorial schedules
Conducting research to identify visual and artistic content opportunities for publication
Assisting in the selection of excerpts from forthcoming translated books for feature publication
Producing at least one original piece of content for the platform
Proofreading and editing articles to ensure accuracy and consistency
Supporting archival projects, including the organisation, cataloguing, and categorisation of past content
Assisting with virtual and in-person literary events when applicable
Contributing to ongoing digital development and transformation initiatives

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is considered an advantage but not mandatory
At least two years of postgraduate professional experience in a related field
Strong interest in international literature and global publishing landscapes
Demonstrated commitment to a career in publishing or editorial work
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Fluency in English, with knowledge of one or more additional foreign languages considered highly desirable
Strong organisational abilities, attention to detail, and initiative
Proficiency in Microsoft Word or similar word-processing tools
Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently
Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small, dynamic team

Benefits

The fellowship offers a compensation rate of $18 per hour. Fellows are eligible for paid vacation and sick leave. The role provides valuable professional development opportunities, mentorship, and exposure to international publishing networks.
