Overview

The Fulbright–Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships support Indian doctoral scholars in conducting advanced research in the United States. The program strengthens academic capacity in India and the U.S. by promoting innovative, interdisciplinary, and technology-driven research addressing global challenges.

Eligibility

• Registration for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution before 1 November 2025
• Expected thesis submission must be at least three months after fellowship end date
• Pre-doctoral research candidates only
• Identification of relevant U.S. host institutions and resources
• Recommendation letter from Ph.D. supervisor, detailing progress and fellowship necessity
• Employer endorsement for employed candidates
• Relevant academic writing samples (max 20 pages)
• Candidates holding a Ph.D. or in final submission stage are not eligible
