The Animal Welfare Fund (AWF) is seeking 1-3 Program Officers (Senior, Mid-Level, Junior) to join their team. This role involves evaluating grant opportunities, shaping funding strategies, and allocating resources to high-impact animal welfare initiatives on a global scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess grant proposals for their theory of change, impact potential, cost-effectiveness, and team capacity.
- Critically review and engage with recommendations from colleagues.
- Recommend high-impact grants aligned with AWF’s strategic priorities.
- Monitor ongoing grants, conduct evaluations, and adapt strategies based on findings.
- Identify promising projects and organizations, and source new applications through strategic networking.
- Develop relationships with potential grantees, guide them to submit fundable proposals, and support existing grantees to maximize impact.
- Manage a portfolio of grants, ensuring they collectively advance AWF’s long-term objectives.
- Identify funding gaps and develop new opportunities.
- Draw strategic insights from monitoring and evaluation processes to inform future grantmaking.
- Contribute to the development of AWF’s strategic direction.
- Represent AWF at external events, conferences, and in collaborations with other funders.
- Support the organization’s fundraising efforts and build partnerships to expand impact.
- For higher seniority levels, manage and mentor junior staff and team members.
- Actively participate in team discussions, sharing insights and expertise to refine AWF’s approach.

- Effective communicator, capable of articulating complex reasoning transparently.
- Highly organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities.

- Well-connected within the animal welfare or related advocacy space.

- Junior Level: Developing knowledge of effective animal advocacy; curious and quick learner; some experience in advocacy, research, or related fields is a plus.
- Mid-Level: Deep expertise in one or more focus areas (e.g., farmed animal welfare, wild animal welfare); proven success in advocacy, research, or grantmaking; ability to develop strategic frameworks and identify promising interventions.
- Senior Level: Extensive knowledge across multiple focus areas and strategic thinking; significant experience in grantmaking or senior advocacy roles; skilled in overseeing complex portfolios, managing teams, and setting organizational priorities.
