    Overview

    This program offers a prestigious nine-month international fellowship designed for early- to mid-career researchers and knowledge professionals to undertake research through a two-phase international residency.

    Eligibility

    Applications are open under three categories:

    • Category A – Fully Funded Academic Fellows:
      • PhD holders or candidates expected to defend their PhD by September 2026.
    • Category B – Self-Funded Academic Fellows:
      • PhD holders with confirmed external or personal funding.
    • Category C – Self-Funded Independent Professionals:
      • Journalists, writers, diplomats, curators, policymakers, and other professionals with relevant experience and confirmed funding.

    All applicants must demonstrate a strong command of English.

    Benefits

    Successful applicants under the fully funded category will receive:

    • A monthly stipend of €1,250 during the six-month residency in Leiden.
    • A housing allowance of €1,200 per month while based in the Netherlands.
    • A travel grant covering approved international travel between the fellow's home country, host institution, and the Netherlands.
    • Visa support for the Dutch residence permit process.
    • Access to office facilities, seminar rooms, the university library, and IIAS events.
    • Participation in professional development workshops, networking activities, and collaborative research initiatives.

    Funding during the initial three-month residency is provided directly by the selected co-host institution according to its local arrangements.
